New Privacy Act, Businesses will need to report serious data breaches from December 1 2020
A law change requiring businesses to notify the privacy commissioner and affected parties if they suffer a serious "data breach" from December 1 2020.
This measure means that if organisations or businesses have a privacy breach that poses a risk of serious harm, they are required to notify the Privacy Commissioner and affected parties.
The new Privacy Act will also enable the privacy commissioner to issue "compliance notices" from December to compel organisations to comply with privacy laws.
Failure to comply can result in a fine up to $10,000.
